Short bio
I am an interdisciplinary animal health and biosecurity researcher with extensive experience in livestock disease systems, zoonotic surveillance, biosafety governance, and food security policy in Southern Africa. My academic background includes a PhD in Environmental Sciences, with specialization in molecular epidemiology and transboundary animal diseases, complemented by professional certification as a Biorisk Management Expert. My research interests lie at the intersection of biosocial security, public health, One Health, livestock resilience, food systems transitions, and the socio-institutional dimensions of animal health governance. I am particularly interested in how scientific evidence can be effectively integrated into public health policy, animal health systems, and community practice to develop resilient, socially just, and context-appropriate biosecurity frameworks that respond to both local and regional challenges. My work is especially focused on strengthening the interface between animal health and public health to improve zoonotic disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, and health system resilience.
