What role should education systems play in promoting arts as a tool for advocacy and social transformation?

I believe education systems have two critical roles:
1. Normalize art as a language, not just a subject.
Too often, art is treated as an extracurricular or a "break" from real learning. But art is how many communities tell their truth, resist oppression, and imagine new futures. Schools should teach students to read and speak art the same way they learn to write essays.
2. Equip students to use art for real-world issues.
Not just painting or performing for grades but creating campaigns, murals, spoken word, and films that respond to local social problems. When young people see their art spark conversation or change in their own communities, they learn that their voice matters.
Ultimately, education should make art feel like a tool, not just a talent.
Would love to hear the thoughts of others on this especially from those working in or with schools!
