Short bio
I hold a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Makerere University and an MSc. Clinical Trials from the University of London/London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. I have over twelve (15) years working experience in infectious diseases clinical research and in HIV prevention, care and treatment. I lead HIV vaccine development, remission, and cure research at MUWRP as principal investigator or co-investigator on research projects testing candidate HIV, Ebola, Marburg, and Bilharzia vaccines. I am the site principal investigator for an observational cohort study on HIV and other infections among high-risk individuals which is looking at incidence, viral and host dynamics among these populations. I am the holder of a research award from the United States National Institutes of Health, looking at improving cervical cancer prevention and precancer treatment among women living with HIV in Uganda. I worked with the pharmaceutical sector in the United Kingdom where I earned experience in the processes and economics of developing and marketing safe, effective medical interventions including vaccines.
As Deputy Executive Director at my organization since 2019, my role involves setting a strategic direction, ethical, and effective leadership. My research interests are in the field of infectious diseases research, emerging and re-emerging infections and research mentorship, women’s health and gender differences in research.
