Mr. Hirbaye Mokona Lola is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Psychiatry at Bule Hora University, Ethiopia. He earned his BSc in Nursing from Arba Minch University and an MSc in Integrated Clinical and Community Mental Health (ICCMH) from the University of Gondar, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Mental Health Epidemiology at Addis Ababa University. He began his career as a mental health clinician at Adola Woyu General Hospital (2015–2016) and later served as a lecturer and researcher at Dilla University (2016–2020). Since 2020, he has continued his academic and research work at Bule Hora University. Mr. Hirbaye is an active member of the Ethiopian Mental Health Association and the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA). He has authored and co-authored 10 peer-reviewed publications and received several honors, including a scholarship award from the African Mental Health Research Initiative-II (AMARI-II), as well as two small-scale and one medium-scale research grants from Dilla University. Hirbaye’s doctoral research focus on mental health, particularly in understanding the epidemiology of mental distress, suicidal behaviours, and substance use among unemployed/NEET youth in rural Ethiopia. He aims to explore and gain deeper insight into the mental health impacts of youth unemployment in rural Ethiopia.
